Baby Led Weaning [BLW]

I had tried giving Sugar Plum homemade baby food so many times, mostly because I had slaves over it, and splurged on organic ingredients to make it. Needless to say, she was not a fan. I was researching other recipes when I came across Baby Led Weaning. It simply involves giving your baby small portions of regular food. And doesn’t that make sense? I’m sure our early ancestors did not have food processors. However, the minimum age you can start this process at is 6 months. Here are some pictures of our baby girl when we first started…

I started with cucumber because most instructions recommend beginning with veggies, but also become they are supposed to be soothing on teething gums.


Babies have a surprisingly impressive ability to pick up food and bring it to their mouths without guidance. If a baby is not yet ready for chewing and swallowing, they have a natural tongue reflex that pushes food out of their mouth.


At first, I thought maybe Sugar wasn’t ready, but it turns out she just wasn’t a fan of the cucumber taste…


Avocado was a bigger hit! I love watching her experience things for the first time. She only was able to chew and swallow a couple bites of each thing, but she  loved smashing her food around on her tray.
